Explore the Alexandrina region in a day
Distance: approximately 110 km
Morning
Start your day in Strathalbyn (or Strath as the locals like to call it) with a coffee at one of our local cafes.
Then take a stroll through the Soldiers Memorial Gardens, crossing the Children's bridge in the middle.
Or you might prefer a treasure hunt for antiques on Historic High Street.
You can pick up supplies for a picnic at The Pickle Pot before leave Strathalbyn.
Take the scenic route via Langhorne Creek as you travel to Milang and Clayton Bay, on the shores of Lake Alexandrina.
You are spoilt for choice with cellar doors in the internationally renowned Langhorne Creek wine region.
With choices ranging from wine tasting, local produce platters, wine and cheese pairing or wine and chocolate pairing - YUM!
From Milang or Clayton Bay stretch your legs on one of the wetlands walks and try out bird watching.
Checkout the Alexandrina Bird Trail brochure for which birds to find where.
Midday
Continue on to Goolwa in time for a lunch at one of our local cafes or grab a takeaway meal to head down to the historic Goolwa Wharf Precinct or if you have children head down to Bristow Smith Nature Playground.
After lunch you can hire an e-bike from Goolwa Bike Hire and ride along the Encounter Bikeway to Middleton, Port Elliot or Victor Harbor.
Afternoon
It’s whale season so keep a look out along the coast from Goolwa Beach to Port Elliot for our regular winter visitors, Southern Right Whales.
The mothers come to the sheltered water of the South Coast to give birth before heading back to the Antarctic in September.
If you spot a whale or take some photos you might like to take a moment to join in the Citizen Science Project: Encounter Bay Right Whale Study.
On your way home travel through Mount Compass stopping off at Harvest the Fleurieu to fill your esky with local produce.
Order dinner from The Range Restaurant.
Then visit our website www.visitalexandrina.com to start planning your next visit.
